BSG/TPA Clan Match
Early in September TPA challenged BSG to a friendly Clan match. In the eyes of TPA this match was to be a hardcore, balls out, take no prisoners battle to the death. The losers were to be hung from their feet and marched through the square then stuffed and placed on the mantle above the fireplace. But a friendly match non-the-less. Turns out, there was a small amount of miscommunication and the actual match was to be a sort of “mixer”, ice cream social, a meet and greet or get-to-know-ya type of game. After a week or two of practice, call outs, strategies and spawn times, this came as a bit of initial disappointment to the TPA. TPA has been in a state of rebuild for the past few months and was hungry for win. BSG had been targeted.
But, much to the surprise of this writer, the “box social” turned out to be quite fun. As I reflected on the match, I found pleasure in the simple fact that TPA had returned as an active part of the greater community. In addition, the guys over at BSG were gracious hosts and a true testament to the Halo society. Although I, and my fellow drooges, still crave the adrenaline fueled competition that only opposing forces can provide; we TPA tip our helmets to the BSG and look forward to our next encounter.
That being said, I found that the write-up for this match to be somewhat difficult to layout in my mind. Normally I would watch the film from
various players on my own team, and plot out where the turning points were. This was greatly eased by my personal knowledge of TPA strategies
and individual player attributes. In this case though, there was a mixture of views and styles that I was not familiar with and I found it
difficult to follow the greater plan of each team. So…I decided to nix the traditional write-up plan and go with a series of snapshots from the
match. Although I’m sure I missed many awe-inspiring shots, I feel that I grabbed many skilled approaches and some amusing situations as well.
